New MAX Bus Passes Will Save Money and Time!

MAX will be discontinuing some youth passes and the $10 Punch Pass on July 31, and replacing them with a new $20 Punch Pass and a new $30 Student Semester Pass beginning August 1, 2012. On July 31, MAX will no longer sell the Half-Fare Monthly Pass, the Summer Fun Pass, and the $50 Student Semester Pass. These passes will be honored until they expire. The passes will be replaced by one new, lower cost $30 Student Semester Pass that can be used by youth and adult students with valid school ID. The new Student Semester Pass is good for unlimited rides on the fixed bus routes for a four-month semester as follows:

  • Fall ... Sept. 1 - Dec. 31
  • Winter ... Jan. 1 - April 30
  • Spring/Summer ... May 1 - August 31

The $10 Punch Pass also will be discontinued and replaced with a new higher value $20 Punch Pass (worth $22 worth of rides) in $1 increments only. Many customers needed to purchase multiple Punch Passes frequently to pay for bus fares. The higher value pass will save regular customers time from having to purchase passes so frequently. Youth passengers who previously used the Half Fare Pass or $10 Punch Pass to pay bus fares are advised to purchase the new $30 Student Semester Pass for the best savings and greatest convenience, or they may pay their fares with cash (50 cents one way on fixed route buses). Students who purchase the new Student Semester Pass by Sept. 28 at the Padnos Center will receive a free backpack or book bag of their choice. It's our way of saying thanks for riding the MAX and taking advantage of this new cost-saving bus pass.
