Seasonal Flu and H1N1 Precautions
The MAX Transportation Authority is encouraging transit workers and passengers to protect themselves against the H1N1 and seasonal flu by practicing these CDC recommended precautions:
-Because the very young, very old, and those with health problems are at greater risk, these groups are advised to get flu shots. These are offerred for low cost through many local area pharmacies, county health office, employers and church groups.
-Cover your mouth and nose with tissue when you cough and sneeze. Discard tissue after use.
-Get enough rest and liquids to increase your resistance and support your immune system.
-Wash your hands often and for at least 10 seconds using soap and water.
-Carry alcohol-based hand cleaners after touching surfaces when out in public.
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs enter the body this way.
-Limit casual physical contact with others, such as handshakes, when unnecessary.
-If you are sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others.
The MAX also is taking steps to minimze the spread of the flu and other viruses among our employees, passeners and the public. Employees have been instructed to practice the precautions noted above. Utility crews also clean all hard surfaces on our vehicles and in our facilities nightly with both bleach solution and antiseptic sprays. Bus drivers throughout the day are using antiseptic wipes to clean frequently-touched surfaces on the bus (fare box, handrails, etc.). Staff at the Padnos Center also is using saniwipes to disinfect surfaces, door handles, etc. used by the public.
